Making the perfect energy ball is an art unto it's own. I will forever be reformulating and changing recipes for different flavour combination.

Most times, they are overly sweet and sticky, and when you are using them as a mid-run/cycle refuel, you get a bit sick of the sweet flavour and crave something dialed down a bit on the sugar front. The texture of these are a bit more sensitive to squashing, however they still kept alright on my last training ride. The flavour is wonderful.

Salads are one of my favourite thing to bring to parties. Most people jump on the dessert bench, but I bat for team vegetable. I bring what I would want to eat, something lighter and fresh, since there are normally no shortage of desserts and rich plates to choose from.

I've always been a lover of citrus and key lime pie - but this was like key lime pie in a cup. I wanted all of it. And the best news... kefir is a fermented yogurt product with TONS of probiotics. Plus there is an avocado blended in. So this pudding is amazing for your digestive health AND tastes great. My mind is imploding right now. Drop everything. Go make this pudding.

I go through food phases. A couple years ago I was eating spinach salads with strawberries every day. My favourite snack for a while was carrots and peanut butter...

Recently I have been on a tahini kick. I want it in everything. Stir frys, salad dressings, marinades. I can't get enough. And do you know what goes great with tahini? Chick peas. So obviously I made falafels. And they were delicious.

Vegetables are things that need a bit of finesse. You need to coax the flavours out of them. I think it's these times that you become more creative as a cook. Pairing flavours with items that do not have the luxury of being intensely flavourful on their own.

I know I know... Parsnips are probably not your favourite thing to eat. But they make an astounding case for themselves when fried and sprinkled with coarse salt and thyme!

Winter is here. Full speed ahead. I left work yesterday to a winter wonderland of blustery snow. My kale is snow covered in the garden looking very depressed. It's root vegetable time.
